Obituary of Margaret L. Walston
Margaret Lee Walston 83 died September 6, 2020 with her daughter Marjory by her side in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born February 24, 1937, in Harlem, New York to Virginia Hardnett and Elhieu Taylor.
Margaret spent much of her life with relatives in Roanoke, Virginia and later returned to live with her mother during her high school years in Queens, New York where she graduated high school from P. S. 136 in 1955. A few years later she met the love of her life Howard Marshall Walston through a relative in Virginia, and they were married in 1958 and had a successful marriage that lasted for 50 years until his death. Together they had a son Howard Marshall Walston III and following that after their departure and move to New York a daughter was born Marjory Darlene Walston and son Douglas Eric Walston.
She attended The Katherine Gibbs School in Long Island, New York and received a Certified Administrative Professional credential. After graduation this allowed her to work at various companies such as The Singer Company, Chase Bank and SUNY Old Westbury College where she was an Executive Assistant to the President for over 15 years. She retired from the workforce at SUNY Old Westbury.
Margaret was an active member of First Baptist Church of Deer Park, New York and was a member of the choir, deaconess team and a Sunday School teacher. She cherished dedicating her life to the work of the Lord. During her retirement years she worked part-time as the church secretary.
Her interests and talents included playing the piano, sewing, cooking, gardening, and volunteering in the community.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Marjory D. Walston, her son Douglas E. Walston and her granddaughter Ariyanna Z. Walston. She was preceded in death by her son Howard Walston III.
Her final message is "To Let Go and Let God".
