As a former student of Dr. Truesdale at Ms.118 my condolences to the family.
I was grateful to have her as my science teacher, she was always checking up on me in high school to make sure I was passing science. R.I.P Dr. Truesdale

I grew up across the street from Amelia. We were kids together. I can't count all the sleepovers, laughter and crazy times we had. We lost touch along the way but she will never be far from my heart. Sleep well till we meet again.

I'm so sorry to learn of Amelia's passing. I found out today only minutes after messaging her an untasteful joke. Forgive me if you find that message, but we both loved a good laugh no matter what. I met Amelia in 10th grade chemistry class and we remained friends to this day. Amelia went from helping me learn chemistry to emotionally supporting me during life challenges like when my father passed last year. Over the years, I learned Amelia and I were good partiers, super intelligent, big on helping others, loved our family to pieces, and my mom's "Lynne Cabell" cooking. The attached photo is us getting caught by one of my siblings eating ice cream at my parents' Brentwood home while on military leave in 1990. She gave me her Farmingdale Univ. sweatshirt and I got us the ice cream. We were wrong because we had just finished off an entire Entenmanns chocolate cake as she was diabetic and I as Mr. Truesdale would call me, "fluffy". In this photo, I recall us celebrating and being excited for our futures, careers, friends, and freedom. I settled at Ft. Jackson, SC in 2010 and was so looking forward to her moving out here to Kershaw County with her dogs and cat after she'd retire. I'm besides myself about losing Amelia because we just were reflecting and laughing about our life as accomplished mid-aged women living as best we could in an "unorthodox society", because we're the "sane" ones.
Amelia loves Jesus! So at least there is comfort knowing she is in Abraham's bosom with her mom, Barbara and my dad in Heaven. God bless Amelia. May Amelia's father, Ebony and her family and friends be comforted with God's love and peace that passes all understanding. I'm in shock, hurt and don't know what else to say. Love, Cori Cabell

As a colleague at MS 118 I worked intimately with Dr. Truesdale. She was unorthodox in her manner but loving all the same. Amelia & I became friends through our work, military connection and life experiences- it is a friendship I will miss dearly. Sleep in peace, Sis

Amelia (Mia) and I worked together in schools three different times over the past 15 years. She is someone who genuinely cared about all children. I spent time last week with the 2009 and 2010 graduates of Foundations Academy. We reminisced about the opportunities she created for students to be smarter, understand themselves, and to enjoy life. She leaves behind a few hundred graduates with very fond memories of Truesdale as being more than just their high school science teacher.
Mia and I spent the past two years working together in the Bronx. The JHS 118 staff and students are truly saddened by the loss of "Dr. Truesdale". She was an active member of our school community and during the brief time on staff had become a mentor to many of our new educators. Many have said, "Once you get to know her..." after getting to know her you find out what a remarkable colleague and selfless friend she could be.
I will miss her presence. Truesdale was a dedicated educator and a good friend. Rest in Power!

Sending prayers of comfort to you and your family for the loss of Amelia. Not only was she our Science teacher at UE, she was a friend. While we didn't speak much after she left our school to pursue other opportunities, I could always count on an out of the blue text or call. She was vibrant, funny, unpredictable and brought great energy to our school. She was a champion for children and she will be missed dearly. Rest well Lady...Kourtney Boyd
