Obituary of James Edward Fair

James Edward "Poppy" "Jimmy" Fair, our beloved husband, father, patriarch, brother, and friend passed away on December 5, 2013. Jimmy was born February 24, 1936 to Addie Margaret Fair Kimbrough in Due West, South Carolina. He had a love for baseball and he shared that love with some of the players in the Negro Baseball League at a very young age. He first met his best friend and sweetheart, Lois McNeil, at Friendship Jr College, Rock Hill, SC, where he played basketball. They parted ways and the second meeting was in Rockville Centre, New York where they were married and have been married for 55 years. They were blessed with four beautiful children - all girls, and Jimmy left this world surrounded by his family, who loved him throughout his illness. Jimmy was a faithful man of God and lived the word daily. His active service and membership included Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wyandanch, New York. He faithfully served on the Usher board, the Men's Group and was a faithful worker of various church committees. One scripture he faithfully lived by is Proverbs 12:11. Jimmy was a Manager of a local furniture warehouse, Porch and Patio in Lindenhurst, New York where he worked for 40 years. Jimmy was passionate about his work, sports, his yard, and his cars, but his greatest love was the love for his family. Jimmy served as President of the Wyandanch Civic Association, served on the board of the Wyandanch Community Development Corporation (WCDC), Community Watch person (he really watched), was involved in Wyandanch Community sports for children, and was instrumental in bringing a public library to the Wyandanch Community. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Lois; children: Valerie Fair Mickel of Rock Hill, SC, Milagros "Mimi" Fair-Smith (Alfred) of Indian Trail, NC, Jami Fair-Davis (Gregory) of Melbourne, Australia, and Tikola McCree of Somerset, New Jersey, his mother Addie Margaret Fair Kimbrough of Long Island New York, and his sister Deborah Ann Kimbrough-Lowe (Philip) of Huntington, New York, brothers-in-law Otis McNeil and Willie George McNeil Sr (Ruby) of Rock Hill, SC, and sisters-in-law Gloria Ann McNeil Neely (Lee) Fountain Inn, SC, Renee McNeil Graham (Richard) of Rock Hill, SC. He has eight grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Lewis Fair. Until we meet Jimmy (Poppy) again in that day when the Lord shall wipe away all tears and former things are passed away. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4?KJV
