Obituary of Marcella Wilson-Bird

Marcella Wilson-Bird was born on September 9, 1957 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Marshal Wilson and Ernest "Peg" Morrissette. She was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday December 7, 2013 at Broadlawn Nursing Home. Marcella graduated from Toulminville High School in 1975. She moved to Huntington Station, New York in 1976 after the death of her mother to live with her aunt Edna McDuffie. She lovingly adopted her aunt as her mother. Marcella began working at "Suffolk State School" in the 1980's in Building 27. Marcella had a reputation as an excellent worker. She always did more than her share of the work and was known to treat her staff fairly. She was very honest, and very well respected at work. She worked for the Long Island Developmental Disabilities Center for 29 1/2 years until she became disabled in 2010. At that time, she was a supervisor in SRU 916. She was married to Orrick Bird for eleven years. She received her A.A.S. degree from Touro College. Marcella enjoyed spending time at Crab Meadow Beach in Northport. Marcella also volunteered at the YMCA in Huntington once a week. Marcella gave her life to Christ in 2003. She was a member of New Hope Institutional Baptist Church. Deaconess Marcella was an active, faithful and committed member. She was a member of the Deaconess Ministry where she held the officer position as Secretary. She was the Vice President of the Missionary Circle. Deaconess Marcella was also the president of the Nurses' Unit and the Adult Sunday School Teacher. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Brandon Wilson of the United States Air Force, Two brothers: Rudolph (Vernetta) Wilson of Baltimore, MD and Joshua Morrissette of Mobile, Ala. Uncles: LayCell (Minnie) Daniels, New York, Pastor Oscar (Carol) Daniels, Maryland. Aunts: Minnie Lee Fox, Illinois, Bertha Lee Fox, Illinois and JoAnn (Larry) Carey, Texas. Her cousins: Brenda (Hodges) Wooten, Delaware; James McDuffie, Massachusetts; Cindy (Oscar) Roberson, North Carolina; Maurice (Ann) McDuffie, Georgia; Bishop William (Yvette) McDuffie, Arizona and Linda Perine, Farmingdale, New York; Her special extended family. and host of relatives and friends.
