Obituary of Julius Collins

Julius Collins was the fourth child born to Elizabeth and Nehemiah Collins in Freeport, New York. The family moved to Amityville, New York where Julius attended Public Schools. Upon graduation in 1935, he went to work doing construction in the summer and cooking at the Old Brunswick Hospital in the winter. After for years of military service, Julius went to work in Amityville Post Office. He retired in 1973 after 35 years of service at the Post Office then returned to work at Brunswick Hospital where he worked an additional 13 years. He finally retired at the age of 71. Julius met Christine Plumber through a mutual friend in 1937. Three years later after being drafted into the Army. Christine would become his loving wife for 66 years. Out of the union, two children were born Carlton and Warren. Fostering children was a part of Julius and Christine's life, raising a total of twelve and adopting two, Terrance and Lawrence. Christine preceded Julius in death on November 17, 2009. Julius was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church, a Past Master of Hollywood Lodge No. 92 and a member of American Legion Post 1218 in Amityville. Julius leaves behind: three sons, Warren (Bernadette), Terrance and Lawrence; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Collins; two brothers, Lloyd Collins (Martha), George Collins (Mirta); grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of caring friends.
