Obituary of Deacon Willie Walker
Deacon Willie Walker, was born on July 4
th, 1937, in Waycross,
Georgia, to the late Peter and Lucy Walker, the third of three
children. His brother Albert, and sister, Quincy Lee, both preceded
him in death. Willie departed this life suddenly, but peacefully, on
Sunday, February23rd, 2014, leaving behind the turmoil and cares of
this world, to rest in eternal peace with the Lord.
Deacon Walker was educated in the Waycross Public School system,
graduating from Waycross High School. Following graduation, he was
drafted into the United States Army, and was stationed in
Huntington, New York. He served from 1954 to 1957, receiving an
honorable discharge. He was a member of the Army National Guard
for over 30 years, retiring on July 4th, 1997.
While stationed in Huntington, he met the love of his life, Rose Ann
Owens. They were married on September 30th, 1961. Willie and Rose
Ann were the proud parents of six children, and were instrumental in
raising and loving care of many more.
He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, cheering on his favorite
team, the New York Mets, win or lose.
Willie worked for the Commack School District, retiring after 30 years
of loyal and dedicated employment. He was an active member of the
Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained, and
served as a deacon. He also held for many years the position Chairman
of the Trustee Board, working quietly behind the scenes, never
looking for praise or recognition. When his health prevented him
from giving his all, he was then appointed Chairman Emeritus. He was
also a member of the David W. Parker Lodge #72.
Willie was a giving man, a loyal friend, a loving protective husband
and father. Family was important to him, and he did all he could for
the wellbeing of his family. He was consistent in all things, honorable
and fair, never raising his voice or uttering a cross word. To know
Deacon Willie Walker was to love him. He will be missed.
He leaves to mourn: his loving wife, Rose Ann; six children, Richard,
Craig, Antoine, Jamal, Shatees, Khadijah and Patrick; ten
grandchildren; six god children, and a host of nephews, nieces, other
relatives and friends.
