Obituary of Charles Edward Lewis
Charles "Eddie" Lewis, 85, entered into eternal peace on May 17th 2014, at
his family home in Bay Shore.
Charles was born on December 17th 1928, in Bay Shore, New York, a son
of Marguerite Jones and Charles Stanley Lewis. He graduated from Bay
Shore High School and immediately after enlisted in the US Navy.
Upon his return from the US Navy, Charles met and married Florine
Toomer - from this union the young couple raised nine children; Maryanne
Mills, Cleveland "Louie" Mills, John Michael Lewis, Charles Lewis, Sardia
Lewis, Stanley Lewis, Sharon Lewis, Melvin Lewis, and George "Eddie"
Lewis.
As a young family man Charles worked at Con Ed for a period of time.
After leaving Con Ed, Charles sought his LPN license and later worked
until retirement at Pilgrim State.
Charles' hobbies included horseback riding, playing African instruments
and studying African American history and foreign affairs.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite Jones and Charles
Stanley Lewis; his wife Florine Toomer; his sister Elvira Lewis-Fonseca;
brother Lawrence Lewis; and son, Cleveland "Louie" Mills.
Charles leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his two sisters,
Jane Lewis and Charlotte Brown; children, Maryanne Mills, John Lewis,
Charles Lewis, Sardia Lewis, Stanley Lewis, Sharon Lewis, Melvin Lewis,
and George Lewis; a plethora of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces,
nephews and a host of dear friends.
