Obituary of William Napoleon Brown

William Napoleon Brown was born on Monday September 24, 1934 to the late Reverend Albert and Ammie Brown in Cove City, North Carolina. He grew up in a warm, loving Christian family with seven siblings. There in Cove City is where William attended Cove City public schools. From school, he fearlessly served in the US Army. He loved to tell stories about his service days in the paratrooper division and the way he would parachute out of planes. He was honorably discharged from the US Army, and soon after discharge he had his firstborn William Stanley Becton in 1959. Thereafter he migrated north, and in 1962 he met (Barbara) Marie Bush and 1964 married Marie which has been an upheld union for 51 years. To this union three children were born. One of the three, Angela Noreen, has preceded him in death. Upon coming to New York, William became a coach cleaner for the Long Island Rail Road and eventually worked his way up to a car inspector, of which he retired in 1990 after 32 years of service. During his tenure at the LIRR he also served as a cab driver, carpenter, and painter. In 1973 William moved his family from the Bronx to Deer Park, Long Island. While in Deer Park, Mr. Brown, as the neighborhood kids affectionately called him, was a fixture in the community. Mr. Brown served as his neighborhood watch block captain, volunteered at SECCA Activities Center, and he also enjoyed fishing in his past time with his fishing buddies Larry "Red" Clayton, and Pete Shipman at the Captree State Park. He also was a member of First Pentecostal Church. After raising their family, William and Marie opened their home to children in need and became foster parents. The children in their care, Steven Vickery, Daryl Norris, and David Kirk whom they loved like family, were very special to them. AnCan as he was known by those close to him, was one of the most colorful personalities you will ever meet. He had a way with words that could prompt a smile or laugh, he was great company and most certainly the life of the party. His big personality always lit up the room and he had an infectious smile. You knew when you met him you had been in the company of someone special. He will be remembered for his candor, honesty, and wonderful sense of humor. On Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 William Napoleon Brown peacefully went to rest.
