Obituary of Charles William Slater
Charles William Slater was born to Constance and Edgar Slater on September 25, 1964. He grew up in Massapequa, New York and attended Amityville School District. Charlie graduated from Amityville High School where he was a member of the Varsity Football team.
Charlie began his career as a Laborer for Nassau County Department of Public Works. After several promotions and over 30 years of service, he ended his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Everyone knew Charlie as the "Grill Master" and top bartender at all functions; he would immediately take over. He loved fried chicken and Coors Light so much that he always had a secret stash to take home. Charlie's recreation was frequent trips to Atlantic City where he made
many lasting friendships. He had a larger than life personality and his laughter was infectious and memorable. Charlie always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He was a proud fan of the Dallas Cowboys, NY Mets, and NY Knicks and had no shame of boasting about it.
He leaves to cherish, his mother Constance (Connie) Slater; three brothers, Michael Slater of Hicksville, NY, Dienza Slater of Miami, FL, James (Meg) Slater of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Kescha Slater of Medford, NY, Angela (Lance) Burke of Medford, NY; brother-in-law, Mohammed Yousuf, aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, host of cousins and many, many friends. Last but certainly not least, his father, the late Edgar "Sonny" Slater and his sister, the late Alleyene Slater-Yousuf.
He was called home on April 27, 2016 and although, it is not the end, you
are always with us. We love you and you will be missed each and every day.
