Obituary of Thomas Taylor Moss
Thomas Taylor Moss was born on May 30, 1927 to Henry and Alberta Moss in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thomas was one of three boys in his family. He attended school in Tennessee until the age of 14. Upon his relocation to New York Thomas maintained by securing diverse employment opportunities. At the age of 25 he was drafted into the United States Army and served the country from July 1952 until May 1954. Thomas' service would lead him to active duty in the Korean War. He served well and was awarded the Korean Services Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Thomas' military service ended honorably due to health concerns.
Upon returning from active duty Thomas secured employment as a Cemetery Caretaker. His dependability proved to be a positive attribute and he remained in that field for quite some time. Following his era at the cemetery employment was obtained at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northport, N.Y. During his tenure at the V.A. Tom functioned as part of a team of assemblers. He took every opportunity to assist whenever and wherever he could. His consistent service continued until health challenges no longer permitted him to function at his optimal level and he graciously retired.
"Tom" as he was fondly called, also served the Lord. While attending Shaw Temple in Amityville, NY he followed the Word and found a "good thing" when he met Earnell Smith. The two were united in Holy Matrimony on August 9, 1980. Their new life together also signaled the beginning of a new church affiliation as they moved their membership to Living Waters Evangelistic Ministries in Amityville, NY. Tom served faithfully as an usher under the leadership of Pastors Willis and Laura Todd. His service continued at Living Waters until declining health interrupted his attendance.
His moments of great pleasure were very often captured by the photographs he snapped as he moved from function to function. He was passionate about photography. A man of few words, a hardy laugh, peculiar to some, precious to others, perfect to God. His deposits will be forever cherished.
Tom was preceded in his earthly departure by his parents Henry and Alberta Moss, his wife, Earnell Smith Moss and his two brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law, Geraldine Broomfield, son-in law, Arthur Broomfield, nieces, nephews and friends.
