Memories of Mr. George Jackson
Although I knew George had serious medical conditions, I was still surprised and deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was just so well preserved, high spirited and lively it caught me off guard. While I wanted to attend the memorial service to say my goodbyes to George in person, I will have to do so in spirit.
Some of my favorite and fondest memories of George are:
[ ] hearing him loudly proclaim over and over -- "This is GEORGE JACKSON" if he thought you weren't paying him enough attention.
[ ] riding around like tourists through some of Brooklyn's neighborhoods (Bed Stuy, Brownsville and East New York) with him, Duke and Tee Tee.
[ ] eating lunch while sitting in the car in front of my house and watching George being most concerned with what kind of beverage he wanted.
[ ] seeing George immediately change his behavior and quickly start to comply when Tee Tee told him she was going to tell his daughter (Victoria) he was "acting up." LOL!
[ ] singing Oldies but Goodies together in the car and sometimes over the house speakerphone when he was at home. There was one song by Marvin Gaye that we both really liked and it went something like this:
"I needed the shelter of someone's arms and there you were!
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs and there you were!
With sweet love and devotion

Although he was singing this song with me, his eyes were focused on Tee Tee and I knew why
Rest In Peace Mr. George Jackson. It was truly a wonderful and memorable experience knowing you.
